Our day in Windsor

The first thing that we say when we got off the train was the queens personal
train that she used to travel from Windsor, to London and back.

This is the queens favorite home and she spend her weekends here.
The 7th century town called Old Windsor was the spot were William the Conquerer decided to build this castle. William was England's first monarch. The castle is made out of timber and earth.

The castle was set up by first building a big hill. At the top of the hill was the keep (a big tower)

The Keep

The hill was called a motte. Around the hill was a ditch. The flat part around the hill was called a Bailey for stables. A stockade was built around the Bailey and then another ditch. The only way in was a bridge over the ditch through a large gate.

It was later turned from a fortification into a palace.
Charles the second was the monarch that made it into a palace.

A guard of Windsor

This is the oldest royal residents in the UK. 39 monarchs have reigned since it was built.

St. George's Chapel, Windsor

Home of the Order of the Garter

Buried here: Edward iv, Henry vi, Sir Reginal Bray, Queen Jane Seymour, Henry viii, King Charles i, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, King George vi, Princess Margaret and many more.

The royal standard flies whenever the Queen is in residents.

The Gardens

The royal Guardsman and I. I felt like he was going to jump and scare me the whole time.

The State Rooms were the kings and queens used to live. It is now a museum. It is sometimes used as rooms for statesman and U.S. presidents wanting to spend the night. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside but I saw the Great Hall with the coat of arms of every person who has been in the order. It was huge!

Elizabeth Regina- Elizabeth i reigned when this building was built.
